INFORMATION ABOUT SIGN UPS FOR 2011 REGULAR SEASON:
Germantown sign ups will once again be held at the Zion United Church of Christ which is located on the corner of Burnett and Minoma Avenues, one block south of Eastern Parkway.  This year’s dates and times are Saturday, February 5th (10:00 AM – 2:00 PM) and Sunday, February 6th (2:00 PM – 4:00 PM).
Please note that a “Germantown Baseball Player Registration Form” must be completed for each child that wishes to participate this season.  If you have 3 children playing this season, you will need to complete three forms.  To minimize the amount of time spent at sign ups, it is very important that this form is completed and it is brought to sign ups.  This form is available at www.germantownbaseball.com and it can be completed on line and printed from your computer!  All new players to Germantown must provide a birth certificate at sign ups.
Fees, Discounts and Picnic Chances:  Fees have remained the same as last season; $80.00 per player in all leagues except for 13 – 15 baseball which is $115.00 per player.  A discount of $10.00 is offered for a 2nd player and $20.00 per player for each additional player in a family.  The fee includes 25 chances per player for the capital prize at our annual picnic that is scheduled to be held on May 21st.  These chances can be sold to help offset your registration fees.  You have paid for them already, so why not sell them?  If you do not wish to sell them, they can be completed and turned in at sign ups or at the concession stand after the season has begun.  Regardless, please remember to turn them in prior to the drawing in May.
Concession Deposit Fee:  Again this season, a concession deposit fee will be collected at sign ups.  This is a deposit fee that will be refunded once the concession stand commitments are met.  The Concession Deposit Fee should be presented in the form of a check ($50.00).  A separate check should be presented for each child when you sign up.  (Therefore, if you have 1 child playing in the league, you will need to bring 2 checks.  If you have 2 children, you will need to bring 3 checks, etc.  It is most helpful if you put the players name and playing age on the “for” line on the check.  Having these checks prepared when you arrive will help expedite the sign up process!
There are several age groups where the number of players could maximize the amount of field time available.  Once the maximum amount is met, a waiting list for these divisions will be started.  A First Come, First Serve stance is being taken.  If it is inconvenient for you to sign up on these dates, please make arrangements with a friend or neighbor.  Late sign ups will only be taken where there are openings.
Player Agents:  Below is a list of the player agents for each division and a contact number for them.  If you have any questions, please contact them or go to info@germantownbaseball.com for a response.

 MANAGERS AND COACHES:
If you are interested in managing or coaching a team this season, you MUST contact the Player Agent for that specific age group, if you haven’t done so already.  The number of coaching positions changes from year to year.  Managing a team in a specific age group the previous season does not guarantee you a spot for the upcoming season.  All manager and coaching candidates will be required to complete a Youth Leader background check form pursuant to KRS 17.160.  Each Player Agent has these forms and upon completion they will be forwarded to the Administrative Office of the Courts in Frankfort, KY for review.
 UMPIRES AND SCOREKEEPERS:
As always, the league is in need of umpires and scorekeepers.  If you are interested in helping in this area, we ask that you please contact one of the following individuals about doing so.  Umpires must be 16 years old for all divisions except T-Ball.  Training classes are going to be scheduled, so it is important that you contact them as soon as possible.  The deadline for scorekeepers signing up is March 1st.
Baseball Umpires, Mike Flora (643-1629)       Softball Umpires, Karen Flora (664-7620)
Baseball Scorekeepers, Karen Flora (664-7620)          Softball Scorekeepers, Mary Beth Thompson (637-9080)
T-Ball & Machine Pitch Umpires and Scorekeepers, Sylvia Baker-Noren (744-3054)
 TEAM SPONSORS AND ADVERTISING OPPORTUNITIES:
We are again in need of team sponsors and advertisers.  Through the help of these individuals we are able to keep player registration fees at Germantown Baseball among the lowest in the city and manageable for the families in our community.  All team sponsors from last season have received a notice from the league about doing so again this year.  If you, or someone you know, can help us in this area, it would be great!
Here are some of the costs associated with sponsoring a team or advertising:
Regular Season Team Sponsor: $250.00 per team. (Price includes your company name or logo on back of team shirt, your company name and phone number in the “Germantown Opening Day” program, a plaque with your team’s picture & a listing on the league’s web site.)
Tournament Team Sponsor:  $250.00 per team.  (Includes your logo printed on sleeve of team jersey.)
3’ x 7’ Banner on Outfield Fence: $300.00.  (Price includes a high quality multi-color banner.  The spots are limited on each diamond so don’t miss your opportunity to advertise your business to our fans.)
Opening Day Program:  Full Page $75.00    Half Page $50.00        Quarter Page $25.00
(Program includes all team rosters and schedules.  Many refer to this program during the entire season.  All sponsors will be listed on our web site plus a link to your company’s web site.)
If you have any questions, you can contact Ron Hildenbrand (645-9189), Denise Hayden (635-2055), Art McCarty (635-2384) or Chad Hood (387-9574).
PARK IMPROVEMENTS DURING THE OFF SEASON:
The ballpark has gone through some renovations since the completion of Fall Ball last September.  With the help and leadership of Wayne Sartin, Joe Thompson and Mark Lindsey, improvements are underway for diamonds #2 through #5.  New infield turf has been installed on diamonds #2 and #3.  The old turf was removed and new sod was put down.  Joe Thompson, along with the help of some outside “experts,” has given us a plan for keeping these infields in better shape.  It is going to take a great deal of maintenance during the season, as well, and Joe is going to need some help in doing so.  If you want to get involved, please get in touch with him.  Also, with the help of a grant through Metro Councilman, Jim King, the fences for diamond #4 and #5 are being removed and will be replaced. Wayne Sartin and Mark Lindsey have been instrumental in getting this done.  The fence will be raised to offer better protection in the park.
 FUTURE IMPROVEMENTS ARE NEEDED:
We have been in discussion with our landlord, St. Xavier High School, about some of the improvements that we feel are necessary in the years ahead.  They have indicated that they are willing to help us make some improvements with respect to drainage, lighting and other issues.  As everyone knows, controlling the water that flows into our park after a heavy rain causes problems for us.  Some of this has to do with the changes that St. X made and some of the causes have been with us for many years, even before their football and baseball fields were constructed.  They are willing to assist, but we have to be patient, for now.  They are very much interested in improving the lighting in our parking lot and the entrance way on Elmer Ritman Drive.  They have met with L.G. & E. about how to go about getting this done.  Hopefully, we will see some benefits this season.
After one of our wind storms this fall, the dead tree by the rest room building had some large limbs fall near the fence on diamond #3.  St. X had a contractor come in and remove the tree along with a dead one next to the batting cages by diamond #2.  With all this being said, there are still a lot of improvements that need to be made by us.  We have buildings that need to be painted, guttering that needs to be replaced, trees that need to be trimmed and picnic tables that need to be replaced, just to name a few things.  Therefore, we have established a committee called Facilities & Grounds that will be commissioned to get these things done.  We ask that you contact John Hughes (897-7438) or Ron Hildenbrand (645-9189) if you see things that need fixing or if you have the means to help get these things done.  At the Babe Ruth winter meeting held in January, Babe Ruth League asked Germantown to consider hosting a Regional tournament in 2012.  If we are going to do this, we need to get the ballpark ready for guests from all around the Ohio Valley region.  Can you help us get there?
 WEB SITE AND CALENDAR:
The league web site, www.germantownbaseball.com is a great way to communicate.  We ask that you refer to this site for current information about what is going on in the league.  A calendar tab has been added to the site to help you with important dates and events.  If you have any suggestions, for improving the web page, please do not hesitate to contact us at info@germantownbaseball.com at the bottom of the home page.
